Not my title, but the title of a book and website by Rob Simpson.  I know I have better uses for the (currently) $3,704 that equal our household’s portion of the cost of this war.  I have tuition to pay and books to buy and animals to feed – I can think of so many things that could have been done with this money.

What about you?  Where would you have spent over $1 trillion?

Medicine for the Soul

It occurs to me that perhaps a “media fast” is in order. With all the strife, anger and fear pumping through the media veins, and infecting my mind from time to time, a little time out is called for.

So, from now (Friday morning around 10) until Monday morning, I shall consume no news. No local news, no national news, no CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, LA Times, NY Times, Huffington Post, NPR, Washington Post, Anchorage Daily News, Le Monde, MSNBC, Der Speigel, or RAI (even to practice my Italian). If I need to get a clue as to the weather forecast, I will forgo the local news stations and their websites, and rely on weather.com, even though it is not always terribly accurate for my locale.

If I could simply stay off the computer, it would be easier, but with homework to do, that makes it tougher. How easy it is just to move that mouse over the the “news” button and scroll down to whatever suits my fancy at the moment.

But I can do this. If I can quit smoking, I can do this.
